Dane County Habitat for Humanity
Habitat Church Build!
|
|

|
|
ALL-CATHOLIC BUILD
This will be the first All-Catholic BUILD for Habitat for Humanity in Wisconsin! With the leadership of St. Bernard Church in Middleton, our Cluster of churches will make history! We have the "community" necessary for a Sponsorship, we have the people of good will, we have the energy, and we have the God-Given talent and treasure!
To be built by the Cluster Churches:
St. Bernard, St. Martin of Tours, St. Peter
St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Francis Xavier |
Family First
Habitat for Humanity
Starts with a family
Our First Families HAVE APPLIED!
Two meetings were held in June and the families are now working with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County to determine whether they will be a candidate for us!
NEXT: Match the Family to a piece of property that meets their requirements. Habitat for Humanity of Dane County has properties lined up, but the Family decides which property fits their needs. Habitat is always looking for additional properties.
Do you have property for consideration? Habitat for Humanity will help with surveys, Title and Closing Services. Call your Parish Representative!
FINALLY: The Family chooses the house plan that Habitat offers and the work begins! The Family receives 12 months of mentoring from volunteers to prepare them for home-ownership and the extensive "sweat equity" they will provide as part of their partnership.

Construction Crew
Skilled Trades Needed Now!
Can you or your company provide the Gifts-In-Kind for skilled and licensed work?
Excavation, Concrete & Foundation work, Electrical, HVAC, Roofing, and Rough Grading are all needed. Your donation of time, materials or leadership go directly to offset some of the $65,000.00 funds we need to raise to start this project. Pledge your support by calling Loren Imhoff - Homebuilder at 831-1900.
After the $65,000.00 is raised, we can finally build the home! People for the construction will be needed at all skill levels in the spring of 2010. Workdays are normally Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday as determined by Habitat (You MUST be 16 years old to be on the construction site!) Construction Crew Leaders and high-level construction skills are especially needed.
Please contact your Parish Representative to offer your talents!

Meet Our Habitat Family
The Ivy Family

My name is Latasha Ivy. I am the mother of two wonderful boys, Antjuan, 10, and Deyontae, 3. Antjuan likes school and playing video games. He also wants to be a football player when he grows up. Deyontae loves going to the park, playing with cards and picking on his big brother.
I have a great job at Trinity Senior Community. I really enjoy helping people who need my help. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with the boys going to the park, playing basketball or staying in and watching movies.
In the last three years, we have moved three times. When I think of having a home of my own, I think of a sense of security and a safe, stable place to raise my sons.
We are very excited and thankful for this opportunity. I would like to thank Habitat for Humanity of Dane County and all the volunteers for making our dreams come true. This is truly a blessing and I am grateful to have a home to call my own.

More Volunteers Needed
Date: March 3, 2010
| To: |
St. Martin
St. Peter
St Frances Xavier
St. Thomas Aquinas,
St. Bernard |
Though we had a good sign-up for the General and Trained Crew Volunteers for the Saturdays schedule, we especially need many more volunteers for the Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday work days. We expect the home will be ready for our volunteers to work on the house late in April and continue to the middle of August.
Volunteers are asked to arrive at the Northport Commons site at 8:15 am and will clean up and leave at 3:30 pm. Lunch is at 12:00 and is “on our own” for week day build dates. Coffee and water are available on site each build day.
Personal hand tools may be brought to the site but it is not necessary because Habitat will provide tools. Habitat does not take responsibility for lost or damage items. Habitat asks that you do not bring personal power tools to the build site.
If you can volunteer for a weekday to help with one of the various construction phases please sign-up on the form and drop it off at church or mail it to Rod Nilles, or call him at 836-5562 to ask questions.

Prayer Committee
We need a few members from each parish to help bring a prayer for Habitat Church build to our churches. Ideas include inserting a short prayer in your church bulletins, holding a Habitat Church Build prayer event, and praying for the success of this project.
Prayer has always been a major ingredient in Habitat for Humanity's mission. Call your Parish Representative to let them know you can help. When you think of it say a prayer for our efforts.
|
Youth Activities
At St. Bernards the November large group activity will be to help sponsor and learn about the Habitat for Humanity project occurring in our parish. We will learn why as a Catholic faith, we are called to serve others. It will also be a fund-raising activity.
On November 22, we will be playing BINGO. All proceeds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. BINGO cards are $3 for the night. Snacks will also be available for one ticket each. Tickets will be a donation of $.25 each. Volunteers will be needed to make this successful. SIGN UP FORM>>
Pennies and Prayers
|
|

At St. Martins and St. Peters and St. Bernards several religious education classes will have a direct opportunity to donate for habitat Church Build in their classes. They will also be encouraged to pray for the volunteers and the donors who are raising money for the house, and for the family who will eventually live in this house. In conjunction with this project little collection houses were made and are in some of the classes along with the displayed prayer card to the right.

Cut and Prepare Fabric 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM

Habitat Church Build is organizing a QUILT GROUP to make two boy's quilts and a mom's quilt for our Habitat Family ! The FIRST of 3-4 sessions will be held at St. Peter School Hall, 7129 County Highway K, Middleton on Saturday, March 20th. We will cut and prepare fabric from 8:00AM to 9:30AM and begin our sewing presentation at 9:30AM.
We need lots of helpers from quilters, sewers, those who can iron, those who can help the sewers and pot-luck lunch helpers. All helpers can stay as long as they like, but we anticipate a mid-afternoon finish for the first two quilt tops.
Come and meet other quilters from our church community in this heart-warming 5-parish project to give our Habitat Family a special gift of love. Plan on bringing a pot-luck lunch item and your sewing machine if you are a quilter.

$65,000.00 GOAL EXCEEDED
|
|
BEFORE we could begin construction, we needed to raise $65,000.00 through Fundraisers, Donations and Gifts-in-Kind. As a Sponsor of this project, this was our PRIMARY TASK until February. There could be no construction project next year if we do not raise these funds. If you are waiting for the moment to help "Build" the home, wait no longer!
THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!
We are thrilled to not only have reached our goal but to have exceeded it by more then $10,000 before our deadline! The additional funds will be used to purchase an energy efficient washer and dryer (the other appliances are included) and a few essential items for the Ivy family. Any additional funds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity of Dane County for their future projects.
Thank you to all of the parish members of St Bernard, St Thomas Aquinas, St Martins, St Peters and St Francis Xavier that have made contributions and supported our fundraising efforts! Thank you also to our business sponsors; Fuzzy Side Up, Memorial Pet Services, Midwest Dental, Meriter Friends 4 Friends Program, Little Red Preschool, K & M Concrete and the Knights of Columbus Council #4549. Additional thanks to the many area businesses that donated items to our silent auction.
The generosity of the parishes and the local communities has been overwhelming and we feel truly blessed to be part of this project.
