Parish Council and Commissions, Finance Council

PARISH COUNCIL

Purpose: The Council shall deliberate and act in all matters including, but not limited to, the spiritual, educational, financial, and social affairs of the parish and in its operation and management, except in those matters where explicitly limited by Church or civil law.

Meetings: The Council has six regular meetings a year: fourth Thursday of July, September, November, January, March, and May.
Membership: The Council has 15 elected members. Term - three years. Five members are elected each year. Any parishioner age 18 may participate in this election.
The Council has formed a number of Commissions to assist in its work:

FINANCE COUNCIL

Purpose:
To be responsible for use of parish funds and stewardship.
Responsibilities: Review budget on a quarterly basis.

Membership: Open to interested parishioners.
Meetings: January, April, July, and October.

EDUCATION COMMISSION
: (This is a link to the Religious Education Program at St. Bernard)

Purpose: The commission assists the pastor in his catechetical responsibilities, to be of assistance to the Director of Religious Education, Youth Minstry and Pastoral Associate and the parish in its mission to provide opportunities for education and formation for all age groups.
Meetings:
Meet every other month


FAITH COMMUNITIES COMMISSION

Purpose:
To enable small groups of 6-12 people to meet for mutual support, friendship, and prayer.
Responsibilities:

   1. Provide resources and programs for those involved in Faith Communities.
   2. Encourage and invite other parishioners to become part of a Faith Community
Membership:Seven to 15 members.
Meetings: Four times a year/or as needed.

HEALTH COMMISSION

Purpose: St. Bernard's Health Commission, following Jesus the Healer, seeks wellness of body, mind and spirit for our faith community in partnership with social and health organizations and through the talents, resources and loving support of the whole parish community.
Responsibilities: Assess the health needs of the parish and facilitate the development of programs and resources to respond to these needs. Support and direct the Parish Nurse in addressing the needs of the parish.
Meetings: Second Thursday in July, September, November, January, and March and May.
Membership: 8 to 12 members with an interest in health.

HUMAN NEEDS COMMISSION


Purpose: To exercise leadership among the people of St. Bernard Parish Family with regard, to service to one another and to the larger community; to address the immediate needs of parishioners or others in our local or larger community.
Responsibilities:
   1. Identify and meet the needs of those in our parish community.
   2. Present information on matters concerning Christian values.
   3. Provide a way to implement Christian responsibilities.
   4. Be involved with:
         a. Middleton Outreach Ministry (M.O.M.) - Food Pantry, etc.
         b. St. Vincent de Paul Conference
         c. Meal Programs - St. Martin's and St. Paul's
         d. St. Francis of Assisi, Milwaukee (our sister parish)
         e. Food, School Supplies, Blancket and Clothing Drives
         f. Rose Sale
         g. Giving Tree
         h. M.O.M. Christmas Dinner
         i. Others
Membership: Open to interested parishioners.
Meetings: Third Monday of every month, except for December, June and July.

LITURGY COMMISSION:

ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE
The Liturgical Environment Committee meets 4 times annually to discuss ways to enhance the worship space of St. Bernard Church. The committee members share ideas and generously give of their time, talent, and materials to create an appropriate setting for our liturgies.

MUSIC COMMTTEE
The music committee provides guidelines for choices of music and literature for all liturgical events of the parish, including Holy Days, Baptisms, First Communion, First Penance, Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing Masses and Funerals, as well as the weekly celebrations of Mass.

PROPERTY COMMISSION


Purpose: Maintenance of parish buildings, equipment and grounds.
Responsibilities:
   1. Prepare an annual operating budget.
   2. Oversee (with guidance of the pastor) the parish maintenance staff.
   3. Coordinate all construction and remodeling projects.
Membership: Maximum of 12 representing various trades.
Meetings: As needed.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION


Purpose:
To promote, maintain and oversee existing social activities of St. Bernard's Parish Family.
Responsibilities:
    1. To assist the various parish groups/organizations as needed.
    2. To plan and organize special social events.
Membership:
Open to all interested parishioners. The Commission shall have at least seven (7) members and representation from the Council, Knights of Columbus. No member shall serve more than two consecutive terms.
Meetings:
Second Monday of July, September, November, January, March and May.
