Religious Education News

The week of November 2 - 9 children, Preschool to Grade 8, will be participating in the Safe Environment program required by the Diocese. Information about these classes can be found on the web site at: Madison Diocese/Safe Enviornment/Children's Program. www.madisondiocese.org.

This year we are offering online registration materials for all grade levels in the Religious Education Program.

Complete and return the General Registration and Grade Level Forms and fees to:  St. Bernard's Religious Education Office, Box 620187, Middleton, Wisconsin 53562. 

All classes are held in the Religious Education Center with the exception of Confirmation, which will be individually assigned.

PRESCHOOL and KINDERGARTEN

Focus: To develop a positive self-concept through an awareness that God made each child someone very special. Preschoolers must be age 4 on or before August 31.

Preschool:

Kindergarten Time Choice:
  Sunday at 9:00 am OR 10:00 am

ELEMENTARY
(Grades 1-5)

Focus: To impart the knowledge, behavior, and attitudes proper to each level so that children are open to an evermore mature catechesis throughout their lives.

Grade 1 Time Choice:
  Sunday at 9:00 am OR 10:00 am OR
Monday at 4:30 pm
Grades 2-5 Time Choice:
  Sunday at 10:00 am OR Monday at 4:30 pm

MIDDLE SCHOOL
(Grades 6-7-8)

Focus: To build Christian community and strengthen relationships with God and each other. In addition, opportunities for service involvement in our parish community as well as social activities will be offered. Grades 6 and 7 meet on the 1st and 3rd weeks of the month, and the 8th Grade meets on the 2nd and 4th weeks. See the Schedule for dates.

HIGH SCHOOL
(Grades 9 & 10 )

Focus: An Independent Study; Mini-course Classes based on Sunday Mass readings, learning more about Christ and moral decision making; and Service Projects.

Each year students are required to complete one Independent Study (booklets and resource materials are provided for each grade level). The High School Program Guide offers a listing, description and dates of the various Mini-courses and Service Projects offered. Four-week Mini-courses are offered in five different sessions; students are expected to sign up for classes in two sessions each year. Students are expected to select and complete two Service Projects–they can be parish-sponsored events listed in the High School Program Guide or other volunteer community service.

    Wednesday: 7:00-8:30 pm

GRADE 11
(Confirmation)

Focus: Preparing for Confirmation through study of our Catholic faith based on Sunday Mass readings and participation at a Confirmation Retreat. Parents and sponsors support the candidates in meetings and other activities. For a student to be eligible for the 2008-09 confirmation program, he/she must have completed at least two Independent Studies, four Mini-courses, and four Service Projects while in the High School Program. Classes are held in the Catechists’ homes.
