Who needs catechesis?
St. Pope John Paul II shares in his apostolic exhortation that "the catechesis of adults... is the principal form of catechesis, because it is addressed to persons who have the greatest responsibilities and the capacity to live the Christian message in its fully developed form" (Catechesi Tradendae 43).
Catechesis is an important work of the church and her members. However, it is important to remember that catechesis and continual growth in our faith lives is something that all members of the Body of Christ are to aspire to. Catechesis is not the work of a few and only for youth. Everyone is called to be catechized and evangelized ever more deeply all throughout their lives.Catechesis at St. Bernard
The Faith Formation Commission, pastoral associate, and religious education office work hard to offer catechetical opportunities for all members of our parish. Catechesis is supposed to:
- promote knowledge of the faith
- promote knowledge of the meaning of the liturgy and sacraments
- promote moral formation in Jesus Christ
- teach how to pray with Christ
- promote living within the community and participate in the life/mission of the Church
- promote a missionary spirit with which to live within society.
